War at Night
While both Armies were fighting Sun had set. Night which will take away the Life of Vanaras also began. Vanaras and Rakshasaas with unquenchable Enimity, each tried to win over the other started fighting fiercly. As nothing was visible both Rakshasaas and Vanaras killed their own comrades thinking they were enemy.‘Come Tear, kill, why are you running?’ - only these sort of words were only heard. Even the Rakshaasaas who are used to moving in the night habitually also faltered. Black bodied with Gold oranaments shining Rakshasaas, appeared like Mountains having shining herbs. In that night Rakshasaas were extremely angry started eating the Vanaras very fast. Vanaras too caught hold of the horses, Elephants with golden chains tore them with nails, biting them and due to their rage killed them. Rama Lakshmana with their Bhanas which were like Big serpents killed those Rakshasaas whom they could be identified as well as those who were hiding. The dust which was raised by Horses and Chariots blocked the nose and ears. While such Gory battle which made Hair rise was taking place, Blood flowed like Rivers. There was fusion of the sound emanating from the musical instruements such as Drum, , mridangam, Conch, flute and other instruments created a Novel sound. The Yelling / wailing / moaning / growling / pleading sound of the wounded rented the Air. The Vanaraswh were killed by weapons like tridents, Sahkthi (Multi pointed spear), the Mountain peaks which were thrown by them which killed the Rakshasaas were the sacrifices made to the Earth, the weapons were the Flowers which were used for Worship. The Battle field was not indetifiable nor any one can go in was full of flesh and Blood. Like the Kalarathri which take away the Life of all Living beings ruthlessly, that night was dangerous to the Rakshasaas as well as Vanaras. In that Night Rakshasaas hid Rama with incessant Arrows so he couldn’t kill the Rakshasaas. Enraged they were growling and opposing, looked as thought the 7 Oceans were swelling as at the time of deluge. Seeing this Rama with his 6 Bhanas which were emitting fire killed them. Due to that Yama shathru, Maha Paarsvan, Vajhradhumshtra, Mahakaya, Suga, Saarana ran away Then with Rama bhanas with golden bandings that night looked like the summer night when fire moths are seen twinkling. That Night become more gory with Rakshasaas agonising sound and the neighing of Horses. On all 4 sides from the increasing sound looked like the caves of Thrikoot mountain was speaking from it’smouth.Black Monkeys ahvign big bodies, and with dark night’s complexion caught hold of Rakshasaas and gave them bear hug and killed them so that other animals can eat them.
Then Angadha deciding to kill Indarjith, he hit indrajith, his Charioteer, Horses. Seeing this Indrajith jumped from the chariot and vanished from the battle ground. This rare achievement was applauded by Rama Lakshmana, Devas, Sages. Since Indrajith’s glory was well known to all Living beings, they appreciated Indrajithebing driven away. Sugreeva, Vibheeshana all complimented him saying ‘Good Good’ and celebrated him. As Indrajith was defeated he got undiminishable rage. Meanwhile Rama said “You all be with Sugreeva without any fear. This Raksahsaa due to the boon he has got from Brahma is tormenting all the 3 worlds. Since his time is favourable, he will win over you. I have to give respect to the boon given by Brahma and have patience’ - thus he cautioned. Then the Rakshasaa by hiding himself used some Bhanas which were like thunder and pierced like Serpents the body of Rama Lakshmana. Then using his magical powers made them unconscious. He bound them by Naga Pasham. Thus all Vanras saw how Indrajith used such poisonous Arrows and made Rama and Lakshmana faint. That wicked soul being unable to win over them in the day, used the Night with magic and bound the 2 Princes Rama and Lakshmana (Slokas46).
