Battle between Rama and Rakshasaas
Kara and his Army saw Rama who was enraged and standing ready with Bow and Arrow to destroy his enemies in front of his Ashram. Kara thought he can easily win over Rama and said “Drive the Chariot towards him” commanded his Charioteer. The Charioteer took the Chariot near to where Ram was flexing his Bow. Immediately his ministers and Army made Aravaaram (Ostentatious, Pompous, ruckus ovation credulous of their Victory) surrounding him he looked like Mars Planet amidst the stars. Then he tormented Rama with many arrows. Then the Army who were armed with various Arms such as iron crow bars, Swords, Axe, vallayankas, Wheels, spears, rotund bars, Huge Bows like Vajhrayudha, Mace and other dangerous ominous weapons got angry and threw at Rama {who was like the Laso (rope of death of Yama) luring him to tie noose around their neck} big Maces, Shields, Tridents, Spears, swords, Axes, countlessly. On top of mountainous Elephants, and on top of Horses and mounted on Chariots, like the Huge clouds with Thunder and Lightning approaches Sun they relentlessly poured Weapons on Rama with a view to destroy him. Like the Rain drops fall on the Hill these weapons could not near him. When Rakshasaas were surrounding him it looked Like Lord Siva surrounded by the Siva Ganas (Entourages of Siva). Like the Ocean stops the River flow Ram with is shower of Sharp Arrows stalled the Weapons thrown at him and destroyed them without an evidence. Like the inferno Vajhrayudha pierces and explodes the Hill; Rama was unmindful of the harm done by those weapons done unto him. Body was injured all over and the blood was oozing and thousands of Rakshasaas were sourrounding Rama; seeing this, the celestials and Sages got worried.
Then Rama got enraged, bent the Bow like a Circle and shot many thousand Bhanams (Arrows adorned with Feathers). They cannot be stopped nor they are bearable; Like the Yama Dhanda (Pole of Yama which is used for slaying People facing imminent death), these Bhanas fell on the Rakshasaas and like the Yama Pash {Laso (rope of death of Yama) luring them, tied noose around their neck} and took them away to Yam Lok (place where dead reach on death). Their Bodies were split open and the Sky with Blood smeared colour shone like an inferno. They emanated from the Kothanda (Bow) of Rama ceaselessly coughing out Flames of Fire; inflamed with Rakshasaas Lives as Ghee (Melted Butter) as catalyst, Destroyed all these : Arrows, Flags, Shields, Heads, the Arms which have been adorned with ornaments and looking like Elephants trunks, Thighs, and Horses which are tied to the Chariot decorated with Golden ornamental work and it’s Charioteers, Chariots, and their Mahuts, Horses and their jockeys, Foot Soldiers very quickly demolished and annihilated completely and totally. Rama showered from his bow Arrows variety –Naaligam (made of Iron tip), Naacharam (Fully iron), Vikarani (Tip has curve and when they come out they pull the intestine along with it) pierced and the Rakshsas Army wailed hoarsely. By these sharp arrows they were hurt in the Nodal point of Life, the Rashasaa Army cried desolately and suffered like the Dry Forest having Forest Fire. Some strong warriors stood in front of Rama and threw Tridents, Swords, Axen etc weapons at him. Rama cut them off with his Arrows and cut off their Heads too. There Bow being broken, shields in tatters Headless, due to speed of Garuda’s wing (Lord of Eagles) whose wind speed causes Trees to fall from their roots, Likewise seeing their compatriot warriors falling they sought refuge in Kara.
Then Dhooshana pacified them and they again ran towards Rama like Yama was running towards Lord Shiva. Motivated by Dhooshana these Rakshaas fearlessly threw trees such as Palm, Aacha, Arrows, Tridents, Iron rotund Sticks, showered Rama with these as well as stones. Rama standing alone and countless Rakshasaas surrounding him the war was Fierce and awesome and caused Fear and surprised every one. Seeing fiery eyed Rakshasaas approach him from all 4 directions with weapons, Arrows, Rama made a Roaring Sound like Lion with a decision to kill them all, he strung the Gandharva Missile (which was dazzling like Sun) on to the string of Bow.
Immediately from Rama’s Kothanda (Bow) emanated countless Bhanas (Arrows fitted with Feathers) instantly ‘hid all the directions like thick fog enevlopes, the atmosphere. Rakshasaas were split open by them. They were not able to see or perceive Rama taking the Arrows and Stringing and shooting them all at one time. Just by the illuminence generated from the origin, only Rama could be seen. There was no moments lapsed between their falling on the Rakshasaas, their dying, they falling on the ground Dead , Some were injured, some fell on the ground as though Thunderbolt struck them, some had hardly any life left in them, some were cut into 2 pieces, some were cut into many pieces, some were torn apart,. The Heads, crowns were strewn all around, some heads, some heads adorned with ornaments, Thighs, Legs, Elephants, horses, Chariots, Chaamaram (Hand fans made of Quills symbolising Royal insignia), umbrellas, Fans, Flags, Tridents, Swors, Spears, Axes, Boulders, due to continuous shooting of Arrows were broken to pieces and were strewn all over the Battle field perilously. Is it possible to describe Rama Bhanam’s Greatness?. (Slokas 46)
