Slaying of Khabandhan
Khabandha saw Rama Lakshmana stuck in his hands and were seen distressed and said to them ‘ Seeing my Hunger plight, God himself has sent you both to me, Why are you staring at me like those possessed? If one notices you seem to be like Princes’. Hearing this Lakshmana in a sagacious manner spoke in accordance with the situation “ Anna, before this Rakshasaa swallows us, let us cut his hands with the Sword. This huge ugly creature due to the strength of his arms is overpowering and torturing all Creatures. First he is trying to kill us. In Ashwamedha Yaga the creatures are done Bharyagni karana (Kushal Grass is tied on their heads) similarly Khabanadha is grounded and cannot defend himself, hence it is not Justified to kill him, we will simply cut off his hands. Hearing their conversation the Rakshasaa got angry opened his mouth and started to swallow them. Immediately Rama and Lakshmana cut of his Arms from their roots. When Rama cut of his right hand and Lakshmana his left hand The Rakshasaa roared menacingly making the sky and earth reverberate and fell on the ground. The Life force for him were the hands which was slayed and hence he was soaking in blood and with trembling voice he asked Rama and Lakshamana “ Who are you? . Lakshmana replied “ He is the Prince born in IKshwaku Clan and is famously known as Rama. Iam his younger brother and I am known as Lakshamana. When we were living in this uninhabitted Forest, Rama who is valorous like celestials, his wife was taken away by some Rakshasaa. We came in search of him. Who are you? Why are you like a Khabahanda having Mouth in your belly and roaming around here? Your ankle Is broken why are you crying rolling on the ground? Khabandha rememebered the words of Indra who had said earlier. Khabandha became ecstatic “ Hey Greatest amongst Men Please accept my respects(Namaskarams). Did you arrive safely? Iam blessed by seeing you. These Arms which were like chains and were tormenting me are now cut and this is indeed a Blessing for me. I will tell you the reason for my getting this Vikara ( ugly, revolting body shapes, scary, threatening, uncouth, cruel disguises/ postures) Form, Please Listen “ said Khabandha. (Slokas20)
