Valli Kills Mayavi
“Rama ! My elder brother Valli is very strongman. My father had extreme affinity towards him. After my father’s demise the Ministers decided to cornonate him as he was the eldest made him the King. That was to everyone’s liking. While our Past Kingdom was being ruled by Valli I always with humility behaved as though I was a servant.
“ Once son of Maya and elder to Dhundhubi named Mayavi had enmity with Valli caused due to a Lady. One night when all were sleeping in Kishkinda that wicked Mayavi came and roared in front of the Fort gate and called Valli for a Battle. Valli who was sleeping comfortably could not withstand it and came out very fast to kill him. Despite his 4 Wifes and my self stopping him with reverence, he shirked us and went to battle with him with great Anger. Then due to affinity for Valli, I followed him. Mayavi saw Valli and me coming and started running, being scared. Since Moon had come , we chased him and ran after him. Then that Asura got into a Cave covered by Grass and vanished. Seeing that Valli got enraged and told me “ Sugreeva! I will kill that Wicked fellow very quickly and come. Till then you be here only. “ I also prayed that I will accompany Valli. Valli did not agree for same and asked me to stay put there only and by asking me to promise on his feet and entered the Cave.I also waited there for an Year. Still he did not come so I was worried if any danger had befallen him and thought that he had died. From that Cave Blood flowed with Froth. I also heard the roaring of the Asura Mayavi. I thought that Valli had been killed by the Asura. Then I closed the entrance of the Cave with a big boulder like a Hill, with great grief I did tharpanam( Libations with Water for the Dead Soul) and performed other final rites and returned to Kishkinda.I hid the fact that Valli had been killed. Ministers had somehow come to know of it despite my not liking it coerced me to become the King. Accordingly I was ruling justly ; Valli killed those Asuras and came to Kishkinda. Seeing me sitting in his throne, he got enraged with Fiery red Eyes he imprisoned my Ministers and scolded me sternly. Despite my pleading “ I have done in ignorance” many times over, he pushed me. As the citizens were with me I could have punished that sinner brother of mine. Still he was my elder brother. I did not want to do that. After he came to the City I did all honours and did (Namaskaram)prostrate before him, kept my head on his feet and asked for forgiveness. But his anger did not subside.Nor did he bless me with Happiness. (Slokas 27)
