Thrishanku

Thus Vishwamithra having spoilt Mahodhaya and his sons Kaushika said “ Hey Rishis ! He is Ikshvaku dynasty King. He is famous and known as Thrishangu., He is great Dharmathma (Righteous conduct, Duty, Pious, humble,Charity ,being Noble, all this done beyond expectation and without anticipation)Person with above qualities. He had given a lot in charity. Furtehr he has surrendered to me. He wants to conduct an Yaga to go Heaven with this Mortal Body. I have given him a word to do the same.

Let my Promise not go waste, so let all of us pray to gether and conduct his Yaga and send him to heaven with Mortal human body. The maharishis together consulted. Since they knew the Dharma (Righteous conduct, Duty, Pious, humble,Charity ,being Noble, all this done beyond expectation and without anticipation) well and spoke amongst themselves “ This Viswamithra who is born in Kusha Dynasty is a most Angry person. We have no option but to do what he says. He is dazzing like the Fire which is burning with all Fury. If he gets Angry he will curse us. So let us do the Yagam with the help of Kaushika’s ThapoBalam (Prowess achieved by Penance) whereby the Ikshwaku King goes to Heaven with the physical body. All the Rikwiks please do your portion of work carefully” thus they concluded .

Yagam was done as per the trediton in an orderly manner. Kaushika and Athvaryu ,rithviks did the same as per Kalpasoothra proceedures by reciting Mantharas without mistakes and did the respective Kriyas. Then Kaushika called the Indra and other Devathas prayed and sought them to take their portions of the offerings. “The Devathas did not pay heed to his request and ignored as they felt “ Kaushika did not have the authority and have been done against the Proceedure” and they did not turn up. KadiPuthra (Vishwamithra ) became furious took the Sruva in his hand and said “ Thrishangu ! Due to the Devathas adamancy and arrogance the yaga which was done to send you to heaven has not been possible. May it be so. So far whatever Penance I have done see the power of the same. It is very difficult to reach Heaven with Physical body. If there are any benefit for all the Penance I have done till date , with the help of my Prowess of Penance you go to Devalok “. Immediately as the Saints were witnessing Thrishanku went to Devalok with mortal body.

Seeing that Indra and Devas(Celstials) told “ Thrishanku , you are not worthy of staying in heaven. Go back to Earth. You fool who has been burnt by the curse of Vasishtaa, you will fall into Earth with Heads Downwards.” Immediately Thrishanku fell Head downwards to the Earth. He yelled hey Vsihwamithra Maha Rishi “ Please protect me”. When those words fell on Vishwamithra’s ears his fury was Dazzling like the Fire of Deluge. And shouted “Thrishanku do not fall Stop stop.” So the King neither fell to the ground nor did he go to heaven. HE stood there.Then the saint established another Saptha rishi mandal in South in the sky and another 27 Stars were created.let these revolve around Thrishanku like the other stars revolve around Pole Star(Dhruva Star). The with unabated anger he asked “ Shall I create one more Indra? Or shall I create another Heaven without Indra? There Thrishanku will be the Indra.and thus started creating Devas.

Indra Devas were scared seeing the creation of another Heaven like theirs and of the Powers of Vishwamithra. And what else will he do? And after that will he curse all those indra and Devas(Celestials) and cause destruction. They were shattered and started to sing in praise of Vishwamithra and consold him. Then spoke to him “ hey Master! Is there anything you do not know?The Brahmin, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas have to reach Heaven without any Sin with lots of Punaym(Good deeds). Here Thrishangu is born as Ksahthriya, but sue to curse of Vasishtaa he lost his clan, Punaym(Good Deeds),and Tejhas (Aura) and became a Chndaalan(Care taker in creamtion ground). He is not worthy of coming to heaven with this body. You are aware of this sage.

Then Vsihwamithra’s anger subsided somewhat. He was happy that those Celestials who dared to oppose him themselves were praying to him. But he cannot forsake Thrishanku as well. His Vow also should not belie.The words of Devas (Celstials) were in accordance with Justice and Dharma (Righteous conduct, Duty, Pious, humble,Charity ,being Noble, all this done beyond expectation and without anticipation). He should not oppose that as well. Hence he said “ Devas(Cekstials) you need not fear. May SakalaMangalam (May all Blessings and Auspicious happenings be showerd on you.) happen to you. I have promised to send this Thrishanku to heaven. That should be kept up. The place he stays may become Heaven. There let him stay with Body forever. May the Saptha Rishi Mandalam and Stars also be there as long as the Earth is there. This you Devas(Cestials ) should agree as well.

Deavas said “ Hey Saint May it be so. In the Sky path the Created Stars and 7 Rishi mandal be located outside Vaishvanara Marg or path will shine for ever. In the centre Thrishanku will Dazzle like the Devas always. But as he has done wrong to his Guru he will always hang upside down. The Stars around him will revolve around him. He will get Special Fame and Live with the comfort & happiness as we have in Heaven. May his thought, your word and our submission be fulfilled. Then Vishwamithra completed the Yaga with another Master. Devathas took their Portions of offerings(HavirBhagam). Those Rishis & Celestials who came to the Yagam appreciated Vishwmithra. (Slokas 35)
