Hanuman Sita Debate
No sooner Rama ordained like this, with Rakshasaas showing the path, Hanuman entered Lanka. When he went into Ravana’s Queens Chambers with Dust laden all over the body, without bath, unhappy, in the midst of Gory Rakshasis, achingly, like the Rohini star was inflicted by Mercury, He went near her, announced his name, did Namaskaram, closing his Limbs, Hanumans stood with folded hands and one hand on his Mouth. Seeing the great Strong Anjana’s son standing in front of her Sita was surprised, Not thinking of anything was keeping quiet. Then she looked at him intently became Happy seeing his Aura and Happiness. Seeing her face brighten up on seeing him, that great man started telling the words Rama told in a detailed manner.
“Goddess ! Raghu Warrior (Rama) , Lakshmana, Sugreeva, Vibheeshana, Vanara Army are all safe and well. The sworn Enemy Ravana is dead. The task for which we came is accomplished. They asked me to convey their well being. With Vibheeshana’s help and Vanaras’ tireless efforts with Laskhmana’s tactics in war, Rama won over Ravana in Battle and killed him. His opinion having been achieved was happy. He enquired about your welfare and asked me to convey as follows. “Janaki! I will tell you the matter which is dear to you. Ravana who tormented you is dead. I am going to the very special thing dear to you. Since you have been separated from this Long, I am going to accompany you to Ayodhya. Hey the Lady who understands the Pathivrata (Chaste, Noble Loving Lady) Dharma! Had you not been alive, My killing Ravana with so much efforts wouldn’t it have been in vain? Hence for so many months you have been undergoing unmentionable troubles, torture and fear, with the doubt whether I will come to retrieve you, also the harassment from Ravana in many ways by pleasing you, threatening you, speaking ill of me, threatening you, beseeching to you, you did not succumb to his wiles, You reposed confidence and Affection in me with single minded devotion, you saved your Life. This is benefit of my Bhagayam ( frutis of good deeds of past Births). Now all worries, sorrow, doubts, thinking are all vanished. We got complete Victory. Ravana is dead; We do not have an Enemy; this Lanka is in our control. I had pledged that I will retrieve you from the Enemy, so I got worried to fulfill same, with no sleep or food, today I made my words come true. I constructed the bridge in the Giant Sea. Do not worry ‘still in Ravan’s home’ Lanka and all the wealth is now Vibheeshana’s. So you need not worry. Please consider that you are at your home. Vibheeshana wants to come and meet you very soon and coming” thus Maruthi conveyed.
Hearing that Sita’s face brightened up like Full Moon and she stood up. And not knowing what to do she was quiet. Seeing that Vayu’s son asked “Mother! Why are you not talking to me? What is worrying you?” asked Hanuman. Sita had heard of Pathivarata Dharam was immensely Happy, with her voice choked with emotions in stuttering slippery way said “Hearing the Victory of My Husband, due to excess Happiness, I was unabe to express myself and was mesmerized. It was like a flow of Amruth (Nectar / Elixir which confers immortality by drinking it) in my wounded heart, I wondered what to tell you and however much I tried, words did not come out. Child! the Help and Happiness you have given me the adequate reward to express my happiness I do not see any anything worthy of in this world. Even if all the Gold, Silver, rare gems in all the 3 worlds are given it will not be adequate reward for same.
Then Hanuman folded his hands above his head and said “Hey the Noblest Lady who thinks of only Husband’s welfare, Victory & safety and well being! With special affinity the words you expressed itself is the apt Reply. It is the reward byond my Yogyatha (popriety, fitness, ability and mental & spiritual faculty) worthiness. Apart from you who else could speak like this? The words you spoke are of intrinsic value. ‘I am not able to find an apt reply to your message’ these words of Yours convey that you are extremely happy, it also conveys the affection you have for me. By these words I got the happiness which was equal to the happiness I would I have otherwise derived when given the choicest of Material in the Universe. Even if I am given Authority in all the 3 worlds would it be equal to what you said? Whatever you have said so far, I have been getting. Rama is glowing having killed Ravana is adorned by JayaLakshmi (Goddess of Victory) seeing that effusive Face would that be equal to this?
Hearing that Janaka’s daughter spoke the most auspicious words. ”Anjaneya! There is no grammatical mistake in your sentences, with all Virtues embedded in it, which gives out happiness on hearing. Only words from you can exhibit Your intellect comprising of 8 parts. Who else can speak like this ( 8 parts are absorbing what other person is saying, retaining it in memory, recapitulating it when we want, telling It to others with appropriate words, inferring the other man’s opinion intuitively, immediately answering them, understanding the inner meaning of the words, understanding the True nature of the sentences, these are the 8 salient features of an excellent intellect) Not by oratory skill alone but with Noble Virtues you have got emancipated.
Despite being son of Vayu (God of wind), you are exceeding you father in giving Happiness by risking you Life. You are treasure trove of immense Mercy. Enthusiasm during Battle, knowledge of Sashtras, body Strength, Valiant Prowess, sagacity, ability to win over others, being patient with wrong doings, Prabhavam(Greatness , Aura, Blessings, Grace), undeterred Courage, Humility, further more Virtues adorn you and are exhuding same. Do not think I am trying to concoct the Virtues which you do not have and conveying same.” Said Sita
Hearing that Hanuman not least bit proudful of that, with utmost reverence folding his hands standing infront of Sita said “Mother! These Rakshasis are gory people; are cruel by nature; they have harsh in their outlook and ruthless in their conduct; when one hears them speak they will tremble. You have considered Your Husband as God, you have since long been separated from him, You have been kept imprisoned by Ravana in Ashoka Garden and While you have been experiencing unmentionable Kasht (Agony, purgatory, discomfort, trouble, hardhip, suffering, harassment, annoyance, travail) these people ridiculed you; chided you; frightened you; insulted you; they spoke unmentionable words; they came running to kill you; I had personally witnessed the same. Those who had not seen like Rama Lakshamana, Sugreeva or other Vanaras, Vibheeshana need not get angry like me with these people. So all these Rakshasis who threatened you I am immensely desirous of killing all of them. Please grant me permission. The Boon I am asking you and the reward you wanting to give me is this only. I will slap them to the extent I can slap them, hit them with my knees, bite them, tear their Nose and Ears, pull their strands of hair, tear them with my Nails, slap them on their cheeks, go up in the sky, will jump on them, will push them on to the ground with my hand and punch them with my clenched Fist and kill them. Aren’t these the wicked people who harassed and Tormented you most? Thus will torture them in many ways and kill them, this is very essential, these pople who had done untenable acts of Aparadh (Unpardonable acts such as sin, misdemanour, delinquency, infraction, violation, crime, offence, guilt, lawbreaker, crime, outlaw, felony)” said Hanuman.
Sita who is Universal mother who became famous due to her virtues of Patience, Mercy, Compassion hearing this, spoke words favourable for Noble clan “Hey Great Vanara! These people are King’s Maids; so they can’t think or act for themselves; they were carrying out task assigned to them; if they don’t do that they will be punished;
would any one get angry with Ravana’s servants? What is the use of telling about them? It is due to the consequences of my past birth’s Sins I had to undergo these travails in this Birth was my fate. Thus I have decided like this and consoled myself. I did not have the power to stop such dangerous situation. I can’t stand the suffering of other, can I see them suffer? Hence my mercy for them only had stopped me then. And now as well. If I had thoughts of destroying them would I not have burnt them then itself? By chance they were on their own free will had caused hard ships, we have to forgive them.
Earlier time a Hunter was Chased by a Tiger climbed a Tree, a bear was there and he sought refuge it said ‘Do not fear, I will protect you’ - thus it pledged. After some time the Hunter was feeling sleepy, he kept his head on Bear’s lap and slept peacefully. Then the Tiger underneath spoke to the Bear and said - “Friend! Both of us are animals; we all belong to one creed; we live in one place.we are related in joy & sorrow; Whereas he is Human; that too a hunter; our sworn enemy; his Livelyhood is to kill us; he is not from our creed; he is not from our country; even though you might save him now, he will forget that, he will try to kill you tomorrow. So push him unto me. One big danger will be removed “thus Tiger prayed. Bear replied saying “What is this ujnjust? he had come in search of my place, he had sought refuge in me, if I forsake him, I will be labelled as a Traitor of a Friend in this world and I will get a gory Hell in outerworld after my death. Hence the words you have spoke do not enter my ears” thus the bear clarified its stand.Then the Hunter woke up, Bear fell asleep and kept it’s head on Hunter’s Lap.Then the Tiger underneath the Tree spoke to the Hunter “Fool! To avoid me did you go and surrender to the bear? Is it of your creed? Friend? He is your enemy. It is only waiting when I will go away from this tree. Immediately it will kill you. Before it wakes up, push it towards me. I will eat it instead of you. Both of our tasks will be fulfilled” said the Tiger. Hunter got swayed by Tiger’s words, not having confidence on Bear pushed it down. While falling the Bear woke up. Due to its natural behavior, it caught hold of a branch and climbed back on the tree. When Hunter was trembling the Bear will kill him immediately, the Bear said ‘Hunter! do not fear. I will not even think of your wrong doing, I will not falter on my words given’ assured the Bear.
Then the Tiger asked ‘Friend have my words become True? He is an ungrateful ‘Traitor of a Friend’ did you realise that at least now? Do not have any mercy on him, push him to me” asked Tiger. The Noble Bear replied ‘Will a Learned get angry with a Wicked natured person’s action? Or would he think of doing good to them? My Honour of upholding my pledge is more important than my own Life. Isn’t the Sathyam an ornament to Living beings?” - replying thus despite Tiger’s repeated pleas not agreeing to it, throughout that night it protected the Hunter. (This is Sita’s Abhaya Pradhana Slokam (Shelter giving verse) “As per your thoughts let these Rakshasis be Sinners, as per my thinking let them be Good people, Why should I enquire about that?
Rakshasaas can take the disguise they think; still you should take pity on them. Who is the person in this world who does not commit mistake? It is their natural habit to be cruel; torturing Living creatures is their happiness; they committing sins is not a surprise;but still we should not do any Keduthi (Calamity, Misery, Catastrophe, Harm, Evil, Havoc) to them.
Great intelligent Hanuman from Sita’s words understood her intentions, Sita who got matchless Fame due to immense mercy is Universal Mother and the Rightful consort of the Noblest Rama said “Mother ! You are the wife of Raghunatha (Rama); his Charanagatha Dharma (An essential act of giving asylum to those seeking Shelter) is shining because of You, Weren’t you the reason for his attaining Fame? You are only worthy of being in his company not fools like me, so please grant me permission. Please give the reply to be conveyed to Rama. I am leaving for Rama’s place”. Janaki (Rama) replied “the Noblest of Vanara! I would like to see my Husband”. Hearing these words Anjhaneya’s Vigour and Aura increased “Mother! Like the Full Moon, making the Heart of those who see him showered upon by Nectar streams Flow cooling it with pleasantness is Rama’s Face and You will very soon see him with Lakshmana. He having destroyed the enemies is shining with Rare Gems of Friends like Sugreeva and Vibheeshana. Like Indrani saw Indra you will very soon see Rama” said Hanuman. Immedately Sita’s face blossomed like Maha Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth), Anjaneya too very quicky returned to where Ram was. (Slokas 56)
